Have you ever wondered which are the most expensive natural disasters in the world?

An earthquake is nothing we can love. No price is worth putting on a human life, but this article is not about that. We’re talking about total damage costs. So, let’s find out which natural disasters caused the most expensive expenditure.

#5 Sichuan earthquake, China â€" $29 billion

Sichuan earthquake took place in May 12, 2008 and measured 8.0 magnitude. This deadly earthquake occured at 02:28:01 PM, and took 69.195 human lives, with 18.392 missing. Also known as the Wenchuan earthquake, it was felt in nearby countries. Total damage cost is $29 billion.

#4 Northridge earthquake, California, USA â€" $42 billion

On January 17, 1994, the Northridge earthquake striked at 04:31Pacific Standard Time in North â€" Central San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, California. With a duration of almost 10 â€" 20 seconds, the earthquake made damages totalling $42 billion. 33 people died imediately and many others died from indirect causes, like stress etc. Almost 8.700 were injured and 1.600 needed hospitalization. More than 25.000 people were left homeless.

#3 Hurricane Katrina, USA â€" $81 billion

The deadliest and most destructive hurricane ever! On August 23, 2005, Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas, crossing southern Florida. Rainfall exceeded 14 inches in Homestead, Florida and in Monroe County a storm was measured of 3 â€" 5 feet. There was a total of 1.836 deaths, 135 missing. Most of the deaths were in Louisiana (1.577), Mississippi (238) and Florida (14). Then 2 deaths in Alabama, 2 in Georgia, 1 in Kenthucky and 2 in Ohio. The total damage was estimated at $81 billion.

#2 Kobe earthquake, Japan â€" $100 billion

Kobe earthquake or also known as the Great Hanshin earthquake occured on January 17, 1995 in the southern part of Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The earthquake measured 6.8 magnitude and killed 6.434 people. It caused almost $100 billiob damage.

#1 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, Japan â€" $235 billion

This is our #1 from the world’s most expensive natural disasters top list.  This natural disaster took place in 2011 and some of you may know it as the Great East Japan Earthquake, the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake, or the 3.11 Earthquake. It measured a 9.0 magnitude and it’s the 5th most poweful earthquake in the world. And since when a problem never comes alone, the Tohoku earthquake triffered tsunami waves with 133 feat (40.5 meters) height in Miyako. Statistics are : 15.883 deaths, 6.150 injured, 2.643 people missing, 129.225 totally collapsed buildings, 254.204 half collapsed buildings and 691.766 buildings partially damaged.  Total damage cost is $235 billion, so yeah, we can say that this is the most expensive natural disaster in the world.
